The Amarillo Art Institute is proud to announce two painting workshops by Cecy Turner in April, 2012. Cecy is a Signature Member of National Watercolor Society, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, American Plains Artists, Women Artists of the West, plus many other organizations. Her most recent awards include the Best Landscape Award in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society 2010 “Best of America,” the Irving Art Association $1,000 Award of Excellence in the 2010 Texas and Neighbors Exhibition, the Landscape Merit Award in the 2011 Salon International at Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio and the Award of Excellence in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society 2011 “Best of America.”
In both workshops the focus will be threefold:
1. Students will be asked their “problem areas” and these will be addressed individually throughout the workshop.
2. The last afternoon of both workshops, Cecy will assist each student on setting their “painting goals” for the next year.
3. The main focus will be COLOR:
- How to capture light in your painting through the use of color
- How to achieve color harmony in your work
- How to avoid mud
- The importance of grays in your paintings
- How to achieve realistic color rather than garish color
- How to create intensity
- How to achieve depth in a landscape through color (and value) – using warms and cools of the primary colors to create depth and simplifying your palette
These will prove to be exciting and stimulating classes and will change your approach to color. Ways to bring out your intuitive side will be discussed to “quiet the voices” that tell us to do things the same way as always, even though these ways no longer work for us!
