Van Gogh - Starry Night

Van Gogh – Starry Night

Go Van Gogh! with Carol Snelson!

June 8, 2013, 10:00am – Noon

$30 with all supplies furnished to create and complete your masterpiece!

(payment required to hold spot in workshop)

Subjects: Sunflowers and A Starry, Starry Night

Style: Impressionism – short, thick strokes of paint quickly capture the essence of the subject, rather than its details.

There are certain traits that we all possess. One of these is creativity. At some level, every single person has a creative spirit within.

Our new workshop series is for any and every  person regardless of their level of creativity, artistic ability or experience. Please join us as you explore a different exciting medium once a month and we find the artist within.  Every month the price of the workshop includes supplies needed for our artists to create and successfully complete their masterpieces. Our goal is that you have a rewarding first-time experience and also complete an original piece of your own artwork. Please join Amarillo Art Institute for our Saturday Art.Beat. Series. This is a workshop series where everyone  is encouraged, and invited to be a part as we take the key and unlock the door to the artist that lives inside all of us and is ready to create!

The paint is often applied impasto. Colors are applied side-by-side with as little mixing as possible, creating a vibrant surface. Grays and dark tones are produced by mixing complementary colors.  Pure impressionism avoids the use of black paint. Students will learn some of the history and background of Vincent Van Gogh. They will produce a drawing and then a pastel painting using techniques and colors similar to Van Gogh. Students will reflect on how emotions play a part in creating art.
