Innovative Artist Bradley Chance HaysAmarillo Art Institute will be hosting a three-day intensive workshop on May 9th -11th from 9 am – 4 pm with Bradley Chance Hays.
Chance Hays is a professional calf roper and artist, painting expressionistic pieces of horses in oil, as well as watercolor. Having a rodeo cowboy father and an artist teacher mother gave Chance Hays an opportunity to explore both of his passions. Joshua SorensonArt lovers and aspiring artists improve your talents! Professional artist Joshua Sorenson will be teaching an Oil Painting Workshop at the Amarillo Art Institute April 10th-13th from 8 am – 4 pm every day with a lunch break from 12-1. Artists of all experience levels, beginner to advanced, are welcome to attend. Joshua is also offering Charcoal Drawing Class on Tuesday nights from 6 pm – 9 pm during the month of April. April 3rd-24th. Joshua will also be painting in the Amarillo Art Institute during the First Friday Art Walk on April 6th.

Oil Painting Classes with Richela Chapman to begin Thursday, February, 3rd from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
This is an adult painting class (ages 17 & up) that teaches how to paint using oil, design composition, use perspective, value and mix color.

Oil Painting Classes with Len Slesick to begin Wednesday, March 9th from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
This is a more advanced adult painting class that teaches how to paint using pastel or oil.

This is an intermediate to advanced pastel class.

Cecy Turner recently won the Best Realistic Landscape Award for her oil “Late Afternoon Solace” in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society Juried “Best of America” Exhibition 2010, and her watercolor landscape, “Early Winter” was featured on the cover of Watercolor Artist Magazine in the February, 2010, issue, along with an article by Cecy on painting snow in watercolor.
The workshop will focus on how to achieve depth in the landscape through value, color, and edges in both oil and watercolor. Demonstrations will be given in both media to explain “thinking like a camera” to lead the viewer through the painting, simplifying some areas and softening edges through close value control rather than “blending”. Simple value studies and color palettes will be done which will have an impact on the students’ painting for the rest of their lives.

Amarillo Art Institute has the priviledge of hosting Russian artist Emin Abbasov for the month of November. Emin is an amazing artist and teacher and will help the individuals in this class with just about anything they will want to do. He teaches oil, acrylic, and charcoal. Emin will help with still life, landscapes, portraits, abstract, drawing, color, composition, tone and shape. The class will be 8 weeks long and will be held Monday and Thursday nights during November (except Thanksgiving) from 6:30 to 9:30pm. This is an opportunity you will not want to miss.
