Jon will walk students through the “Paper Napkin Technique,” a technique Jon has been using for decades with incredible results.
Birdsong’s art career began in 1967 after graduation from West Texas State University when he accepted a teaching position in Hereford, TX. After a couple of years he began showing his personal work in local art shows and “wallah!” his professional career started. His medium was and still is watercolor, although sometimes he dabbles in acrylics.
Although leaving education several times to pursue painting and teaching workshops, Birdsong managed to complete 32 years in the classroom teaching public school art. Throughout that period he and his students won numerous awards including a “Birdsong” accepted by President Gerald Ford to hang in the White House during Ford’s administration.
Birdsong considers his painting style to be loose realism with a smattering of impressionism. Most of his work is of the Texas and New Mexico landscape.
