AAI Updates

Latest News

19 Aug

Here at the Institute we have been working very hard trying to get the Library done. We are hoping to have everything complete and put back together for First Friday Art Walk in September.

For the next two weekends we will be having Volunteer Work Days. This weekend, August 20, we will start working at 1 PM. We are by no means asking you to give up your whole afternoon but if you have a couple of hours to spare please come help out the art community. For further questions on these work days, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Nell Phipps, at 355-6112. Thanks.

The Amarillo Art Institute Has Added THREE NEW Fall Classes

A Splash of Color: Oil and Pastel Painting
Saturdays 9:30-12:30.

Instructor: Richela Chapman

6-week Session: September 17, 24; October 1, 8, 15, and 22
Cost: $105

This class is designed for beginner and intermediate painters. Weekly topics focus on the use of value and color in composition. Chapman begins each lesson with a short lesson and demonstration. Students have plenty of time to paint what they choose. Richela helps students learn to paint in their prefered style, whether it be realistic, impressionistic or abstract.

Art lovers and aspiring artists improve your talents! Professional artist Joshua Sorenson will be teaching two art courses at the Amarillo Art Institute beginning this September. Artists of all experiences levels, beginner to advanced, are welcome to attend.

Tuesdays 6:00-9:00 PM
8-week Class: September 19-November 8
Drawing class, with an emphasis on charcoal portraits.

Thursdays 6:00-9:00 PM
8-Week Class: September 22-November 10
Oil Painting class

Joshua Sorenson was born into the world of art. The son of professional artist Jack Sorenson and wife Jeanne, Joshua grew upin a supportive environment that encouraged and motivated him to pursue his dreams, harvesting the creativity of an artist in him at a young age. As a boy, Joshua began sketching as soon as he was capable of holding a pencil, composing drawings of miniature bronze sculptures made by his father and adorning the family coffee table. As he matured, Joshua’s interest in and passion for the arts only intensified, taking up oil painting in 1999. Managing a coffee shop by day and painting by night, Joshua would hone his skills as an artist for the following decade before taking up painting full time in 2010, a decision he credits to the success made possible by his supportive and loving parents. Joshua is represented by Joe Wade Fine Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico as well as Sunset Art Gallery of Amarillo, Texas, where he lives with his wife, his muse, and his best friend-Alexis!

Also, one of our artist that has taken our Master Workshop with Jack Sorenson, has her art on view at the The Colony Frame and Gallery in Woflin Square. It will be on display until August 31. She has some beautiful pieces, so we suggest you go check them out!

We wish everyone a wonderful weekend!
