Join us as we squish bugs and wood barks, steep flowers and brew tea to create a colorful palette of natural dyes.
Students will create a natural dye “recipe book” and let pure alchemy flow to create the perfect red, and maybe even a favorite shade of green.
Jennifer will also showcase some dye stuffs that are safe to use with your kitchen pots. (Not all dyes are toxic.)
The dye books created will guide a student’s personal exploration as we open up day 3 to personal and advanced dye projects.
Each student will be in charge of a part of the process, and all participants will be able to take jars of dye home with them at the end of the workshop.
Jennifer Aghassibake is a modern dye whisperer. She has spent the last five years researching and recreating natural dye methods. Her background focuses on textile history, with a love of tablet weaving, spinning, and floor looms. She loves every process, as they say, “from sheep to shawl.”
“Dyeing is like being a mad scientist, it’s fun, messy, and pure alchemy.”
