Local artist Janette Dickerson will teach a 3-day workshop on “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Amarillo Art Institute, 3701 Plains Boulevard, #117.
Dickerson bases the course on Betty Edwards’ well-known book and teaches perception of edges, spaces, relationships, lights and shadows, and the whole or gestalt. Both beginning artist learning to draw and experienced artists wanting to enhance skills and boost creativity are welcome. The workshop will continue from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and finish with a session from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $125.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art with a minor in Education, Dickerson was a graduate assistant in the Oklahoma State University Art department. She later moved to Amarillo and taught art in the public schools and at the Amarillo Museum of Art. She is a Signature Member of the Lone Star Pastel Society, Amarillo Watercolor Society and Amarillo Fine Arts Society, as well as an award winner of the Society of Master Impressionists of America. Workshop enrollment is limited. Members receive a 10 percent discount.
